Bulat Utemuratov's foundation will restore the Almaty Botanical Garden

The foundation of Bulat Utemuratov is ready to allocate $15 million for the restoration of the Main Botanical Garden of Almaty. According to the available information, the money will go towards the repair and update of the infrastructure – irrigation system, a complex of greenhouses and hothouses, and heating systems. More details about the planned works can be read here.

What do Almaty residents and guests of the Southern capital have to wait for?

According to the CEO of Verny Capital holding, Yerlan Ospanov, the repairs on 27 hectares of land will be carried out with money from the foundation. The garden will get a new modern fencing system, and in addition, two entrance rooms will be organized (from Al-Farabi and the Kazakhstan Center of Business Cooperation “Atakent”). It should be reminded that there is only one entrance to the garden at the moment, from the Timiryazeva St., and it will also be reconstructed. For people with disabilities the garden will be equipped with paths for comfortable and safe movement.

In addition, special attention will be paid to the landscape design of the garden. With this purpose in mind, experts from European countries will be invited, as well as a working group of the Institute of Botany and Phyto introduction, Department of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The green botanical foundation will be replenished with new specimens, and water ponds will be restored for plant collections.

Everyone can take part in the reconstruction!

Organizers plan to involve the public in the process of reconstruction. At the moment, the negotiations on the creation of communication channels in Facebook and Instagram, as well as in the Public Council of Almaty, are under way. Thus, anyone can not only monitor the progress of reconstruction, but also make proposals for improvement.

Will the status of a natural object change after reconstruction?

As AsetMasabayev, the head of the department of natural resources and nature management of Almaty, noted, in the future, no part of the botanical garden is planned to be built up or given away to third parties for commercial purposes. Moreover, the Office emphasizes: Almaty Botanical Garden will retain a special status of a protected natural area. Akimat of Almaty will manage its public areas by the end of this year, and the Ministry of Education and Science of Kazakhstan will manage the scientific part.
